Whether this is your first year hosting the Thanksgiving feast or if you have hosted it many times before, a Thanksgiving shopping checklist is an essential tool for organizing and getting organized. This is why we have put together this handy checklist. This checklist contains all you need to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
How to Use this List
Although everyone’s Thanksgiving menu may differ, there are many common elements. Mashed potatoes can’t be negotiable! You may only be able to use some items on this list, but you will need most. It would help if you chose your Thanksgiving recipe, Thanksgiving side dish, and Thanksgiving desserts. Make sure all ingredients are included on your list. You’ll then need to cross-reference that list with ours and combine them.
Next, look in your pantry, cupboards, and fridge to find what you have. This will ensure that you spend only what is necessary. Cross off any items that are on your shopping list. You will have enough food in your kitchen without adding more flour bags or a turkey baster.
It’s now time to go to the store. It’s best to shop at least a week before the big day, so fresh ingredients don’t go wrong. Before you go shopping, make sure you check our list of grocery shops that are open on Thanksgiving.
Turkey
You want the bird to be the star of your show, so make sure everything is perfect. A succulent turkey requires crispy skin and juicy meat. Here are some tools to ensure your turkey has the best of both.
Roasting Pan
It’s worth investing in a high-quality roasting pan and avoiding disposable ones. You can spend a little money on one. It will last many years and be beneficial since you only use it once or twice yearly.
Meat Thermometer
A digital thermometer is an essential tool you can have. You can avoid overcooked or dried-out birds and, even worse, dangerous undercooked ones.
Fresh Herbs
There are a few herbs that you can use in fall recipes. These herbs include fresh rosemary and thyme. This combination will add tons of flavor and make your kitchen smell incredible.
Butter (Lots!)
Unsalted butter is the one ingredient that you cannot have enough of. We prefer unsalted butter because you can control the amount of salt in a recipe. This is particularly important for baked goods. You will use butter in almost every Thanksgiving dish. Butter will make your turkey skin crispy, an essential ingredient in many desserts and side dishes. Make sure you have a few ounces.
