Blue Plus Cushion

It was my friend Sarah’s birthday last week so I whipped up a cushion for her.

I’ve seen a few of these plus quilts and cushions around and was keen to try it out for myself. The cutting took a while with a lot of tiny pieces but I like the scrappy style.

I found the pattern for these plus blocks on pinterest but now that I’ve gone back to look for the link I can’t find it anywhere! Sorry!

I backed the cushion with an off cut of a Tula Pink fabric that I used to back this quilt.

The blues with the low volume prints worked really well together. The best part was that I got most of the blues straight from my scrap basket.

My next project is to perfect sewing with hidden zippers. I have some fabulous Echino prints I’d like to make into cushions for my sofa and I’d like the zip to run down the side rather than through the back of the cushion like I’ve done in this project.

  1. LOVE this!! So cute!! I am dying to make a plus quilt (I thought it would be a fantastic baby quilt, plus for positive) and this would be a great decor item to make with it! <3

  2. Hi Ros, I want to make this – the pattern is wonderful and will work in so many colors…I can see making this in a London style Union Jack and also using up some of my left over Halloween fabrics. Yep, this is definitely going to be happening in my sewing room. Thank you! GG in Springfield, IL

  3. Oh! I love the back of the pillow with the little bird – I like the way you did the zipper…heck, I love the whole project. GG

  4. This is gorgeous, I really love the colours. I have made a few plus cushions but not in this style, I must have a look for the block pattern. x

    1. Thanks Kay! Sorry I couldn’t find the link, it was something that popped up on my pinterest feed and I didn’t save it 🙁
