…and baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule. Let me live that fantasy. (Extra points if you can name the song!)
This month I’m Queen Bee in my quilt bee group as part of Blossom Heart Quilt’s beehive. I’ve chosen the tic tac toe quilt block, which was the first block released in the series. I just love the design and I think it’s going to look fantastic once I add even more blocks.
I’ve wanted to use dark blue / navy fabric in a project for a while now and I thought the contrast with aqua would be perfect for this design. I love the result. As an added point of interest, I’ve also chosen low volume prints for the light fabric.
I love this dark blue floral fabric from the Tsuru range by Rashida Coleman Hale before her Cotton + Steel days. Wish I had bought more.
I had to be extra vigilant when using directional fabric but it was worth the time – I love how the stripy spots aqua looks in this cross.
I’ve got my work cut out for me – I’ve decided I’ll need 30 blocks and I’m only expecting about 8-10 from my bee group. Luckily the block comes together quite quickly. I need some more blues and aquas but I think I’ve built up a good collection of low volume prints. I’m trying not to add to my stash at the moment but I think I can make an exception for this project!
I was also really pleased with my paper piecing skills on this block for last months Queen, who wanted the Wanta Fanta block. I really enjoy paper piecing and I’d like to try it more often.
I feel like I’ve been sewing up a lot of blocks, which is great for skill building but I haven’t had a finish in a while. Looks like there are a few zippys or small projects in my near future!
You are really rocking those blocks, your majesty! Amazing!
Royals…Love that song!
Phew SO GLAD you commented! Thought everyone was going to leave me hanging!
xx
And we’ll never be royals (royals).
It don’t run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just ain’t for us.
We crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me queen Bee
And baby I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule, I’ll rule.
Let me live that fantasy.
They look lovely Ros – can’t wait to see them all together.
Royals! Love the whole album – it’s a great one to crank up while sewing!
Definitely! I love it!
I love your blocks, Ros. Navy and aqua is such a great combination.
Thanks Jan! And thanks again for the ticket for Bendigo – it was a fantastic day! Hope you can come next time! xx
