Lots of people have asked me about the pattern I used to make the pouch I featured in the pictures for the Sweet Pouch Swap Christmas Edition post. Unfortunately it was a project I just made up off the top of my head (apart from the star block) so I don’t have any measurements, although I can share a few details with you.
I wanted to make something with a bit of interesting detail and incorporate a lovely festive feel.
I started off with the idea for a small star block and used these PDF instructions to make a 6″ block. I fussy cut the Santa from a lovely vintage christmas print I found a few years ago. The star points are scraps with christmas related colours and prints. The grey cross hatch fabric is a perfect background and adds a nice bit of texture and interest.
Blurry phone pic but this is the completed block before I added more fabric for the pouch panels.
I framed the block in a variety of polka dot fabrics, including a really pretty one along the top that has gold in it. Love some bling for a christmas project!
Once that was done I stitched up a very basic pouch with a zipper, lining, cotton batting for sturdiness and boxed corners so it could stand up.
Sorry I can’t be more specific about measurements but it was one of those projects where I just stitched it up quickly so I could use it as my poster project for the swap! I am very flattered that so many people liked it – thank you for your kind emails and comments!
I’m trying to add more details to my patchwork and spend more time on projects. I have the skills but not always the time so I’m having to force myself to look at my projects as a long game where I can stitch one step at a time rather than start and finish something in an afternoon. The star blocks are very easy and a great way to use scraps or incorporate fussy cuts into your project.
The swap is going well so far – the funny thing is that there was an even number of participants so I don’t have a partner 🙁 I’ll still make another one for the inevitable parcel that doesn’t arrive. Lots of lovely pictures popping up on the #sweetpouchswap hashtag! Keep them coming!
If you missed out on the swap, I’m sure I’ll do another one next year so you might want to subscribe to receive all my blog posts via email, or sign up for my newsletter. Both options are available on the blog side bar.
