Twilight Inspired Dessert – Chocolate Mousse & Raspberry Layered Dessert – Recipe

 Breaking Dawn Party Peeps

One thing you might not know about me is that I am a huge book nerd. I adore reading, always have and always will. There is nothing better than being completely absorbed by a book and staying up until the wee hours to finish it. Then, if you are like me, once you have finished it you will mourn a great book for days!

One book series that I unashamedly love is the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. I read them during the summer of 2008/09 when I was about 35 weeks pregnant and struggling through a very hot Australian summer. I did nothing but lie on my bed with the air conditioner on and live vicariously through adventures of Bella, Edward and Jacob. Back in the good old days before kids, when I could actually read during the day time without interruption!

If you are a fan, you’ll know that the fifth and final film, Breaking Dawn Part 2, is about to be released, so I am joining in with Marissa from Rae Gun Ramblings to celebrate. Here is my contribution to the party –

Chocolate Mousse and Raspberry layered dessert. YUM.

This dessert is inspired by Twilight for a few reasons. I’ve always been really drawn to the cover art. I am quite convinced that the black covers with the striking blood red and white have played a part in the success of the novels. The designs are feminine but not girly, simple yet dramatic, and different to a lot of the other supernatural / fantasy / YA fiction available.

So my dessert is influenced by the colours. Blood red with raspberries, white with cream and the dark contrast with the chocolate.

And of course…when the frozen raspberries thaw, they ooze their red juice through the cream and it looks a bit like blood. You can’t have vampire themed food without something resembling blood, right?

So here is the recipe – it is really easy!

Chocolate Mousse and Raspberry layered dessert

You need (makes 2) –
– one small tub of store bought chocolate mousse (150-200g)
– one small tub of double (thick) cream (200mL)
– one small packet of frozen raspberries (300g – you will have leftovers)

In a small glass, add a layer of chocolate mousse, a thin layer of cream then about 5-6 raspberries. Repeat until the glass is full. The final layer should be a small amount of cream topped with raspberries.

Leave out in room temperature for 1-2 hours to allow the frozen raspberries to thaw and ooze their lovely red juice.

That’s it! Enjoy while watching a movie – one of the Twilight series perhaps?
