My Tohoku Tote Bag

When I saw the Create with Me project for September over at Ucreate my first reaction was ‘yes please’! The project is the Tohoku Tote designed by Cheri from I am Momma-Hear Me Roar. She has a fantastic tutorial which is really easy to follow and here are the results:

My interfacing didn’t behave during the ironing on phase so I have a few wrinkles, but they weren’t that obvious so I continued on. My fabric choice was Amy Butler Daisy Chain Clematis in Grey. I used a coordinating solid that I picked up from my local fabric store for the bow, straps and lining.

I popped in a custom made pocket that fits my phone so I don’t have to rummage around when it rings. I was worried about my bow making skills but it came out better than I expected!

Overall a great success and a pattern and tutorial I would highly recommend if you fancy a new bag!

  1. It looks fabulous, Ros! The two fabrics work well together, to make a great Spring/Summer bag. You've done a good job on the bow.

  2. This bag is gorgeous…I also thought of participating…my best friend would love this bag but I don't have suitable fabrics, however there is a big fabric market at the weekend here in Frankfurt so I hope to get some…and than have 4 days to make it:-)

  3. Nice job! I like the color combo. I have always feared to sew a bag. I think that it is too hard for my skills. Hmm, after seeing your post I feel motivated. Thank u for the inspiration

  4. It looks great! I like the colors and the style. These colorful and joyful bags are my favorites. On second place are celebrity handbags which actually are an addiction to me 🙂

  5. Oh I love this. Not just the bag pattern but the fabrics you choose are just gorgeous. I wish I was at this level with my sewing. Maybe someday. 🙂

  6. I love both the design and the fabric! It's the most interesting tote bag design I've seen for a long time – the bow gives it that added interest. Love it!

  7. Thanks for the extremely detailed tutorial! This was my first ever sewing project and it turned out fantastic! My friends even started ordering them from me.

  8. Just saw your bag on someone's Pinterest board and I had to comment on it! You did a great job on it. I actually made this bag myself almost a year ago and it has become my favorite "go to" bag! I know you must be enjoying yours also!
